Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the crystals of an oxide superconducting material thin film oriented vertically or in parallel to a surface on which the thin film is formed and make the manufacture of a superconducting device easy and obtain a high critical current density by a method wherein a magnetic field is applied to the thin film while or after the thin film is formed on the surface. CONSTITUTION:Oxide superconducting material has a modified perovskite structure. It has copper atoms 2, other copper atoms 3, oxygen atoms 6 around the copper atoms 3 and oxygen vacancies 7. The mechanism creating superconductivity is such that pairs of electrons are moved between planes defined by (a) and (b) axes, in other words, along a (c) axis by the interaction between oxygen atoms 5 in the layer structures and the copper atoms 2 at the centers of the layer structures. Therefore, an external magnetic field with an intensity of, preferably, higher than 0.3 Tesla is applied to a thin film made of the oxide superconducting material while or after the film is formed and, preferably, while the film is heated to induce the interaction between the oxide superconducting material and magnetic material or magnon. With this constitution, the respective crystal axes of polycrystals can agree, or roughly agree, with each other so that a single crystal can be produced more easily.
