Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a Josephson element having a tunnel junction using a metal oxide superconductor by interposing an insulating film having a crystal structure. CONSTITUTION:A first Y-Ba-Cu-O metal oxide superconducting film 2 is formed by approx. 1mum magnetron sputtering method on a sapphire substrate 1, and patterned. A crystalline insulating film 3 having 10nm of sapphire having extremely near lattice constant to that of Y-Ba-Cu-O is formed on the film 2. Then, since the film 3 has the crystalline structure, a second Y-Ba-Cu-O metal oxide superconducting film 4 can be easily formed approx. 1mum on the film 3 to form a tunnel junction Josephson element having sandwich-like metal oxide superconductor through the film 3.
