Abstract

PURPOSE:To process a branch instruction at high speed by performing actions to both a jump-and-link instruction and a restoring instruction in a single processor cycle respectively. CONSTITUTION:A 1st gate means 8 outputs the value of a program counter in response to an execution start signal 7 for branch instruction and only the control information given from a control information storing part 5. A 2nd gate means 10 opens in response to a restoring instruction. The value of a program counter 4 is saved into a general-purpose register 2 by an execution start signal 7. At the same time, the control information is saved into the register 2 via the means 8. These two saving actions are carried out in a single processing cycle and then the restoring action is also carried out in a single processing cycle in response to the instruction 9. Thus the branch instruction is carried out at high speed.
