Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the sufficient mechanical strength and the high reliability of the titled device by using a ferrule in which the optical axis of an optical fiber and the cylindrical axis of a cylindrical ferrule are not coincided with each other. CONSTITUTION:A 1st cylindrical ferrule 8 in which the optical axis of the optical fiber 7a is coincided with the cylindrical axis of the cylindrical ferrule, is inserted into the 1st cylindrical part of a ferrule holder 10, and said holder 10 is moved in parallel on a package stem 2, followed by adjusting the optical axis of a semiconductor laser 1 and that of the optical fiber 7a so as to be coincided with each other. Next, the optical output of the semiconductor laser 1 at the fixed position is measured, and the ferrule holder 10 is fixed on the package stem 2 at the A part thereof. And, then the deviated amount of the optical axes is measured, and a 2nd cylindrical ferrule deviated axially with the deviated amount is exchanged for the 1st cylindrical ferrule. And, the semiconductor laser 1 is emitted, and is positioned so as to be detected to the same extent of the output to the optical output measured in the light receiving element of the optical fiber 7, and the 2nd cylindrical ferrule is fixed to the ferrule holder 10 at the B part thereof by welding, etc.
