Abstract

PURPOSE:To have electric discharge processing with high precision without lowering the processing speed by mixing ceramic fine powder in 5-70vol.% of the total amount to fine powder of semi-coke, molding under pressure, and sintering at a temp. over 2,000 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:20% silicon carbide powder and 10% boron carbide powder are mixed evenly with semi-coke powder in 70vol.%, and the result is molded under isotropic hydrostatical pressure with no binder used, followed by sintering at a temp. over 2,000 deg.C, to accomplish an electrode consisting of carbon-ceramic composite material. When this electrode is used in electric discharge processing, electric discharging characteristic is dispersed on the discharge surface in a high degree because ceramic articles are dispersed evenly over the discharge surface, and generation occurs in the part of graphite matrix. Accordingly the surface can be processed flatly in high degree, which can be also compatible with the processing speed.
