Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a carbon material having superior electric conduction, oxidation resistance and high strength by mixing an SiC powder, B4C powder, TiC powder and/or ZrC powder, and raw coke powder with the specific ratios, and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:The basic component is a mixture of 5-50vol.% carbide powders consisting of silicon carbide and boron carbide and a remaining portion of raw coke powder. The above carbide powders are replaced by 3-80wt.% to the total with the ceramic powders consisting of carbide powders of titanium and/or zirconium to prepare the powder mixture. Then, this powder mixture is sintered to form a carbon material. This carbon material is suitable for the application requiring a superior electric conduction and also a high strength in an elevated temperature region, and is available for electric- and electronic- parts materials, mechanical-parts materials, etc.
