Abstract
PURPOSE: To develop a sintered material having extremely excellent strength, by blending powder Al2O3 and SiO2 in a specific ratio, further mixing with whiskers, molding, sintering at normal pressure and further subjecting to hot isostatic press treatment.
CONSTITUTION: 67W75wt.% calculated as Al2O3 of extremely line Al2O3 or Al(OH)3 having <0.1μm average particle diameter is sufficiently blended with 25W35wt.% SiO2 having 0.1μm average particle diameter. The blend is mixed with 5W15wt.% based on the blend of whiskers such as AlN, B4C, SiC, TiC, TiN or graphite having ≤200μm length and mixed in wet state to give slurry. The slurry is dried, then press molded and sintered in an inert gas atmosphere such as N2 or Ar at 1,650W1,750°C. Then the sintered material is subjected to hot isostatic press treatment in vacuum or in an inert gas atmosphere of N2 or Ar at 1,500W1,800°C under 200W2,500kgf/cm2 to produce an extremely high-strength Al2O3-SiO2-based sintered material is produced.
