Abstract

PURPOSE: To electrode material for discharge having good strength, an adequate electric conductivity, and an adequate thermal conductivity, prepared by disparsing uniformly fine carbon formed in the decomposition of hydrocabons into between electrically conductive metal particles.
CONSTITUTION: The fine particles or pieces of an electrically conductive metal, e.g., copper, silver, etc., are mixed with tar, fats, a glue, and other hydrocarbons, and then the mixture is filled in a sintering mode and sintered by heating to disperse uniformly the fine carbon 3 formed in the decomposition of the hydrocarbons into the interfaces 2 of the electrically conductive fine metal particles or pieces 1. In this case, the preferred amount of carbon to be dispersed into the metal is 1 to 6 % by weight of the sintered body. And, the preferred electric conductivity of the sintered body obtained is at least 40 % or more of that of the metal used and also the preferred thermal conductivity of the sintered body obtained is less than 0.5 kcal/cm.sec.°C at the most.
