Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance electric, optical, photoconductive, and image characteristics, durability, and characteristics bearing environmental conditions by incorporating Al, Si, and H into a lower layer in a nonuniform distribution in the layer thickness direction. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptive layer 102 formed on a supporting body 101 comprises the lower layer 103 made of an inorganic material containing as at least elementary constituents, Al, Si, and H, and at least one of Ge and Sn, and having a part containing Al, Si, and H in a nonuniform distribution in the layer thickness direction, and an upper layer 104 made of a nonmonocrystalline material containing Si as a base, and at least one of H and halogen and having a layer region, in contact with the lower layer 103, containing an atom governing electric conductivity, thus permitting each of electric, optical, photoconductive, and image characteristics, durability, and characteristics bearing environmental conditions to be enhanced.
