Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a photoconductive member suitable for all environments and to enhance the endurance, etc. of the member by distributing C in the lower, upper and intermediate regions of the photoconductive amorphous Si layer contg. H or halogen at uniform concns. in the thickness direction by amounts C1, C2, C3 (C3<C1, C2), respectively. CONSTITUTION:On an electrically conductive support 101 a barrier layer 102 is formed with nonphotoconductive amorphous Si or the like. On the layer 102 a photoconductive amorphous Si layer 103 contg. H or halogen is formed while distributing C in the lower region 104 of the layer 103 by an amount C1 at uniform concn. in the thickess direction, in the upper region 106 by an amount C2, and in the intermediate region 105 by an amount C3. C3<C1, C2, each of C1 and C2 is 20-90 atomic%, and C3 is 10-0.001 atomic%. Thus, a photoconductive member 100 having stable photoconductive characteristics at all times and giving a superior image is manufactured.
