Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve ion mobility and to prevent the color deposition at the boundary face of an EC layer by constituting the color forming part of an ECD of a single-layered thin film formed by plasma polymn. using a compd. composed of an alkali metal and element having large electronegativity and an org. compd. as raw materials. CONSTITUTION:This device is constituted of a glass substrate 21 as a transparent base body, an ITO film 22 as a transparent electrode, the single-layered color forming part 23 which exhibits an EC (electro-chromic) characteristic, and a transparent ITO film of a counter electrode 24 formed to face the transparent electrode. The plasma-polymerized film of the color forming part 23 is formed on the ITO film 22 formed on the glass substrate 21. The film of In2O3-SnO2 is formed to 0.1-0.5mum thickness is formed by a vacuum deposition or sputtering method as said film. After the layer 23 of the color forming part is formed, ITO, i.e., In2O3-SnO2 is formed thereon by sputtering vapor deposition to complete the ECD 20. About 2.2V is impressed to the ECD (electro-chromic display device) 20 by a DC power supply 30 which can be switched in the polarities for voltage impression. The long-life ECD having the high ion mobility is thereby obtd.
