Abstract

PURPOSE:To make removal of heavy metal ions from an alkaline solution feasible by causing chelating agent having a chelating function group such as an oxine group to come into contact with an alkaline solution containing heavy metal ions. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of chelating agent selected from among an oxine group, a polyaminocarboxylic acid group, an aminophenoxy group, an aminonaphthoxy group, an hydroxyimino group, a hydroxyamino group and an aminoalkylenephosphonic acid group is prepared. This chelated agent is caused to come into tough with an alkali solution containing heavy metal ions so that heavy ions in the alkali solution may be adsorbed and removed. The preferably concentration of alkali component in the solution is 10-50wt.%. The heavy metal ions appicable are iron ions, nickel ions, chromium ions, etc.
