Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heavy metal removing filter which consists in carrying active ferrite on fibrous materials and which can adsorb and remove heavy metal ions in waste water in particular at high rates.
CONSTITUTION: This invention comprises a heavy metal removing filter which consists in carrying about 5W40%, particularly 25W40% active ferrite on natural fibrouns material such as paper cotton, asbestos or the like. Said active ferrite is obtained by treating mixed solution of ferrous salt and ferric salt with an aqueous alkaline soln. in a pH8W9 range. The active filter of the heavy metal removing filter of present invention is stable at 2W12pH, and out of the adsorbed heavy metals, Cr2+ is desorbed when the filter is treated at 10W11pH and Pb2+, Cd2+, etc. are desorbed when the filter is treated at about 3pH. Hence, the filter may be easily regenerated and repeatedly reused by subjecting the untreated filter to regeneration treatment with an aqueous alkaline soln. followed by regeneration treatment with an aqueous acid soln.
