Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a stable high-concentration tin oxide sol with water as the disperse medium by adding hydrogen peroxide solution and metallic tin to an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid or oxalic acid, while the molar ratio of H2O2/Sn is being kept in the range of 2-3, and allowing them to react. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen peroxide solution and metallic tin are added to an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid or oxalic acid, while the molar ratio of H2O2/Sn is being kept in the range of 2-3, and reaction is allowed to proceed, thereby preparing an acidic tin oxide sol. Further, to this acidic tin oxide sol is added ammonia or an organic base to neutralize the sol, thereby forming a gel of tin oxide. Thereafter, this gel is separated and washed to obtain a wet cake. This wet cake is then deflocculated with ammonia or an organic base, thereby preparing a tin oxide sol having a pH of 7 or more. It is preferable that the first addition be made such that the concentration of tin oxide in the aqueous hydrochloric acid solution is less than 15wt.%.
