Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare free gluconic acid useful for the manufacturing of flavorings, a coagulant of bean curd, a pH depressant, a foaming agent, etc., easily, directly, in high yield and in one step, by oxidizing glucose with oxygen in a non-alkaline aqueous solution in the presence of Pd-Pt mixed catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Free gluconic acid is prepared by oxidizing glucose in a non- alkaline aqueous solution with molecualr oxygen (oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas) pref. at 30W150°C, esp. 50W100°C in the presence of a catalyst comprising (1 part of) Pd and (pref. 0.05W1 part, esp. 0.1W0.5 part of) Pt. The catalyst is pref. supported by an inorganic carrier such as activated charcoal, alumina, etc. in an amount of 2W10 wt%.
USE: Useful in the field of textile industry, leather industry, food industry (seasonings, acidifiers), etc. and as a cleaner of glass, metlas, etc.
