Abstract

1297140 Alkaline earth metal zeolites BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 8 June 1970 [18 July 1969] 36329/69 Heading C1A Alkaline earth metal zeolites are prepared by hydrothermal treatment of an aqueous mixture of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide, silica and an alumina hydrate formed by hydrolysis of an aluminium-containing material and added to the mixture without drying. The mixture may have a composition in the ranges: Alkaline earth metal oxide/SiO 2 = 0À10 to 0À40 SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 = 6À0 to 11À0 H 2 O/alkaline earth metal oxide #150. The alumina hydrate may be pseudo-boehmite or bayerite. The aluminium-containing material may be the metal; a salt, such as the chloride; amalgamated Al; or an Al alkoxide, such as Al isopropoxide and the hydrolysis may be carried at temperatures from below 0‹ to 100‹ C. using acid, neutral or alkaline conditions. The zeolite may be ion-exchanged to add a platinum group metal, such as Pt or Pd. Al 2 O 3 may be prepared by immersing amalgamated Al in deionized water or hydrogen peroxide.
