Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a sintered alloy excellent in wear resistance, by dispersing respectively specified amounts of CaF2 and a hard material with specific grain size and hardness into an Fe-Cr-C alloy matrix with a specific composition.
CONSTITUTION: CaF2 (0.5W3% by weight) and 5W20% hard grains in which grain size and the average value of Vickers hardness are regulated to 44W150μ and 800W2,000, respectively, are dispersed into a ferrous alloy matrix consisting of 10W20% Cr, 1.5W3.5% C, and the balance essentially iron. Further, the grain size of CaF2 is regulated to ≤149μ and the hard grain has a composition consisting of 50W70% Cr, 5W10% C, ≤1% Si, and the balance essentially Fe. Subsequently, the prepared alloy is sintered in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at about 1,180W1,260°C so as to be formed into a sintered alloy having a density of ≥95% by true density ratio. By this method, the sintered alloy improved in sliding wear characteristics without causing deterioration in pitting wear resistance and heat-resisting strength can be obtained.
