Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a plate for an alkaline storage battery having high mechanical strength by forming the central layer of a three-layered substrate with a mixture of nickel powder and metal fibers, and forming its both side layers with only nickel powder containing no metal fibers. CONSTITUTION:A sintered substrate consists of three layers and its central layer 2 is made of a mixture of nickel powder and metal fibers 3, and the side layers 4, 5 are formed with only nickel powder containing no metal fibers. A core and the metal fibers 3 are easily bonded through nickel powder, and metal fibers invade side layers. Even if slurry for high porous substrate production is used in side layers 4, 5, the peeling off of the plate is difficult to occur. The plate having high strength is obtained and in addition since the central layer 2 containing metal fibers are interposed between the side layers 4, 5, protruding of metal fibers from the substrate is eliminated and the generation of short circuit is effectively prevented.
