Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease a level difference around the borders of two tones by baking an applied A-colored coating, water-buffing the areas to be coated with a B-colored coating, drying the areas, making the A-colored areas, applying the B-colored coating, and then baking the B-colored coating, or after removal of the masking and application of a clear coating, baking the B-colored coating. CONSTITUTION:An intercoat is applied and dried. Then, an A-colored coating is applied thereon and baked. Thereafter, the areas to be coated with a B- colored coating is buffed with water and dried, and the A-colored areas are masked before the B-colored coating is applied. Baking of the B-colored coating is performed thereafter, or after the masking is removed and a clear coating is applied. Thus, two-tone painting of an automobile body is completed. More particularly, water-buffing and drying of the B-color areas 4 is followed by masking of the A-colored areas 5, in a usual way. Thereafter, in the case of a solid color, the subsequent procedures are B-color coating 6, baking 7 and then masking removal 8. In the case of a metallic color, the subsequent procedures are B-color coating 6, masking removal 7, and then clear coating 8, followed by baking 9.
