Abstract

Cylindrical metal can bodies (CB) to be coated, open at one end, are threaded onto rotary mandrels (19) guided by an endless conveyor (21), so as to pass successively through coating (11), rinsing (12 and 13) and drying (14) compartments. In compartment (11) the can bodies ar exposed to jets of coating liquid emitted by nozzles (29) while they rotate about themselves. An electrical voltage of 180 V is maintained between the nozzles and the mandrels. This process makes it possible to coat only the outer surface of the can bodies, in contrast to the electrophoretic coating processes using immersion. It is also possible to coat only the inner surface by making the nozzles enter the interior of the can bodies. <IMAGE>
