Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain nondirectivity being sufficient for practical use, by a method wherein a hard pedestal whereon a vibrator is mounted is shaped in a truncated cone having a slanting surface of a prescribed angle and an element whereon the hard pedestal is mounted is also shaped in the truncated cone, so that a region of minimum sensitivity be prevented substantially from affecting operations of transmission and reception. CONSTITUTION:A transmitter-receiver is constructed of a vibrator 2 for ultrasonic transmission and reception, a mold 1 for making this vibrator 2 watertight in water, and a hard pedestal 4 whereon the vibrator 2 is mounted with a vibration-proof material such as cork interposed. The hard pedestal 4 is shaped in a truncated cone having a slanting surface of a prescribed angle, and a mounting element 5 wherein this hard pedestal 4 is mounted is also shaped in the truncated cone. According to this constitution, the direct wave of ultrasonic waves is received through the mold 1 and an ultrasonic signal reflected by the slanting surface is reflected near by in the direction of the original incident wave even when there is an incidence of another ultrasonic wave entering from the same direction as that of the direct wave and being parallel thereto. Therefore the ultrasonic wave reflected by the hard pedestal 4 is prevented substantially from interfering with the direct wave and minimizing the sensitivity of reception in consequence.
