Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a product free from surface defects, by properly controlling respective contents of Si, Mn, C, S, P, N, and O among steel components so as to prevent cracking at the time of rapid solidification in manufacturing a sheet-metal product of an Fe-Ni-base alloy of high Ni content. CONSTITUTION:An Fe-Ni-base alloy having a composition which contains, by weight, >=10% Ni and in which or more kinds among <=about 10% Cr, <=about 10% Mo, <=about 10% Nb, <=about 2% Ti, <=about 2% V, <=about 20% Ta, and <=about 10% W are further added selectively, if necessary, is cast by a rapid solidification synchronous-type continuous casting method causing no difference in relative speed between a mold and a slab. The resulting slab free from scales is properly subjected to one or more rollings among hot, warm, and cold rollings so as to be formed into the final thickness and then to the final annealing, by which a product can be formed. In the above method, the contents of Si and Mn among steel components are regulated to <=0.3% and <=0.5%, respectively, and also the contents of C, S, P, N, and O are limited to <0.03%, <0.001%, <0.006%, <0.003%, and <0.005%, respectively. By this component regulation, cracking at the time of the rapid solidification of the above Fe-Ni-base alloy is prevented and the sheet-metal product free from surface defects can be economically obtained.
