Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an MR type magnetic head having high reliability by forming the head into the structure in which electrodes are not exposed on a surface facing a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An Ni-19wt.% Fe alloy is deposited by evaporation as a magneto-resistance effect film 2 on a ZrO2 substrate 1 and is patterned to provide the electrodes 3 in a manner as not to be exposed on the surface A facing the recording medium. Laminated films of Mo and Au are used for the electrode material and further an insulating layer consisting of Al2O3 is formed thereon to constitute the MR element. Since the electrodes are thus not exposed on the surface, the possibility of corrosion is eliminated and the electrode material can be selected only in terms of heat resistance. Materials such as metal Mo having the poor corrosion resistance but having the excellent heat resistance are usable for the laminated films consisting of Mo/Au, etc., and, therefore, the reliability of the head is improved.
