Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the stability of a head and to prolong its life by enabling excellent information reproduction even during the stop of a recoreding medium by using and arranging two magnetic resistance (MR) elements while bearing their position relation with attention paid to recording wavelength. CONSTITUTION:On the same substrate 6, the 1st and 2nd MR elements 7 and 8 of MR materials (Fe-Ni alloy, etc.) are formed in a rectangular shape to a thickness of 200-400Angstrom , width (w) of 10-30mum and length (l) and the axis of easy magnetization is directed lengthwise. One terminal of each of elements 7 and 8 is connected to corresponding conductor layer 9, and the other to common conductor layer 9'. Element 7 is not exposed to the recording medium slide side and arranged at distance (d) of less than about 20mum from the recording medium slide surface, and element 8 is formed at position S away from the medium about 0.3 or more time as long as a maximum recording wavelength recorded on the recording medium.
