Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a head of superior sliding resistance characteristics by sinking a biasing conductor and a ferromagnetic thin film from the surface opposing to magnetic recording media and providing the ferromagnetic thin film in a closed magnetic circuit. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic thin film 7 acting as a reluctance (MR) effect element is formed by, for example, photoetching, on the glass layer 14 of a substrate (also serving as a lower core) melt-sticking the 1st, 2nd magnetic materials 131, 132 by the glass layer 14 (both ends thereof are magnetically coupled to the materials 131 and 132, and signal detecting current IS is applied through terminals 81, 82), and an insulation layer 151 is formed on part of the top surface of the material 132. An insulation layer 152 is formed on these. Next, a biasing conductor coil 5 having a width wider than the thin film 7 is formed on the layer 152 (biasing current Ib is applied to the coil 5 through terminals 61, 62), and further an insulation layer 153, and the 3rd magnetic material (upper core) 16 are provided thereon, whereby the MR effect type head is obtained.
