Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the noise due to expansion of metallic materials and to improve the characteristics of short wavelength, by putting back end faces, which face to a medium, of a pair of thin film conductors, from the face, which faces to the medium, of a magnetoresistance head and holding these conductors between electric insulating layers. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic shield 3 consisting of a ferromagnetic thin film is provided on a substrate 2. An electric insulating layer 4 is provided on the layer 3. A magnetoresistive element 6 and signal taking-out conductors 7 and 8 for taking-out of signals consisting of thin film conductors are interposed between the electric insulating layer 4 and an electric insulating layer 5 which is arranged on the layer 4 and consists of the same materials as the layer 4. A magnetic shield layer 9 consisting of the same materials as the magnetic shield layer 3 is formed on the layer 5. Signal taking-out conductors 7 and 8 are put back from the side of a medium sliding face 10 and are covered with the electric insulating layer 5. Signal taking-out conductors 7 and 8 are arranged to be brought into contact with the magnetoresistive element 6. Thus, the expansion of signal taking-out conductors is not generated to prevent the occurrence of noise, and electric insulating layers 4 and 5 can be thinner than conventional layers to improve the resolution.
