Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent reproduced waveform which has the less secondary higher harmonic component, by interposing a diaphragm layer between a magnetic film having magnetic resistance effect and a nonmagnetic conductor film for bias magnetic field generation in a magnetic resistance effect type magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a magnetic material substrate 1 of ferrite, etc., is finished in a specular surface state, and after an insulating film 2 (having 2,000Angstrom thickness) of SiO2, Al2O3, etc., is vapor-deposited on the specular surface, and a nonmagnetic conductor film 3 (having 2,000Angstrom thickness) of Ti, etc., is formed on the insulating film 2 by sputtering. On this lamination structure, an insulator, such as SiO2 and Al2O3 is vapor-deposited to about 1,000Angstrom to form a diaphragm layer 8, on which Fe-Ni alloy is vapor-deposited to form an MR film 4 (having 500Angstrom thickness and magnetic resistance effect); and the films 4 and 3 are etched with the same pattern, and a metal such as Al making electric conduction between both of them is vapor-deposited thus fitting electrodes 5. The diaphragm layer 8 prevents mutual diffusion between the MR film 4 and nonmagnetic conductor film 3, thereby obtaining an MR head which has superior MR characteristics.
