Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve high-sensitivity and wide-band reproduction by providing a main and an auxiliary magnetic pole each consisting of a thin magnetic film having high magnetic permeability with windings for magnetic variation detection, and decreasing the film thickness of the main magnetic pole toward the tip surfce. CONSTITUTION:A main magnetic pole 11 has double-stage structure wherein the film thickness (t) of a part at a distance (a) from its tip surface is less than the film thickness T of a more inner part. Then, spacing between a medium and the main magnetic pole is denoted as (d), and d/T=0.25, t/T=0.5, and a/T=0.5. In this case reprodcuction characteristics are as shown by a graph 5 in the figure. In the figure, graphs 6 and 7 show recording density characteristics by a conventional main magnetic pole which has not the step structure atop and has film thicknesses T and (t). Consequently, the reproduction characteristics by the main magnetic pole having the step structure atop have high sensitivity corresponding to its overall thickness on a low-recording density side, and high density corresponding to its tip thin thickness on a high-recording-density side.
