Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the traveling property, corrosion resistance and electrical characteristics of a medium by providing projections between a magnetic layer and protective film layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic film which is a thin ferromagnetic metallic film consisting of Co-Ni (80-20), etc., and the protective film layer consisting of a vapor deposited Ni-Fe (80-20) film, etc., are successively laminated on a smooth base film. The projections, more preferably the projections having <=300A max. height are provided between the above-mentioned two layers. The projections are formed by coating a soln., which is prepd. by dispersing, for example, SiO2 having a prescribed arain size together with polyester in a solvent, onto the magnetic layer and drying the coating. The medium having the excellent traveling property and corrosion resistance as well as electrical characteristics such as video jitter and video S/N is obtd. according to this constitution.
