Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium having improved magnetic characteristics by laminating plural magnetic metallic layers on a base material in such a way that a non-magnetic material layer consisting of a nonmagnetic Ni-base alloy contg. a specific amt. of P is interposed between these. CONSTITUTION:An underlying metallic layer 2 consisting of a non-magnetic metallic material such as nickel alloy, a magnetic metallic layer 3a consisting of a thin film of a magnetic alloy such as Ni-Co-P alloy, and an intermediate non-magnetic material layer 4 consisting of a non-magnetic Ni-base alloy contg. 1-15wt% P are formed successively on a base material 1 consisting of polyester, aluminum, etc. by an electrolytic plating or the like. The layer 4 can be formed by an electroplating method by using bivalent nickel ions and hypophosphite ions. Thence, a magnetic metal layer 3b and a protecting layer 5 consisting of a non-magnetic metallic material such as nickel alloy are formed thereon, whereby the intended metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium is obtained.
