Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 この発明は機械装置における封止部材の膨潤をおこさせ
るための組成物および封止部材の膨潤をおこさせる方法
に係り、とくに、潤滑粘度を有する油性液体と式（式中
、ＲＩは少なくとも４個の炭素原子を有する炭化水素系
基であり、Ｒ２およびＲ３の各々は水素または低級アル
キル系基である）で表わされる置換スルホレーンとを含
んでなる封止部材膨欄性潤滑組成物に関する。
機械装置（例えばモータ車の自動伝達装置）における封
止部材、ことに弾性封止部材が作動流体との接触によっ
て収縮するということはかなり重要な問題である。
このように収縮すると作動流体のもれが生じ、そのため
に機械が満足に動作しなかったり、全く動作しなくなっ
たりするからである。（「作動流体」とは潤滑剤、圧力
流体、自動伝達流体、熱交換媒体等のようにエネルギー
の伝達に用いられる流体を意味する。）上記問題点を解
決するために、封止部材を膨潤させる添加剤を作動流体
に添加することが通常おこなわれている。このような添
加剤として数多くのものが知られているが、それぞれい
くつかの欠点をもっている。例えば、多くは有毒であっ
たりする等である。さらに、かなり多量に作動流体に加
えなければならないことがいよいよ起る。したがってこ
の発明の目的は機械装置に使用される封止部材を膨潤さ
せるかあるいはその収縮を最小限に抑えることのできる
組成物および上記のような膨潤をおこさせる方法を提供
することにある。
さらにこの発明は比較的毒性のない添加剤を含有する封
止部材膨潤性潤滑剤および作動流体を提供することにあ
る。
また、この発明の目的は極度に少量だが効果量の封止部
材膨潤添加剤を含有する潤滑剤および作動流体を提供す
ることにある。
既述のようにこの発明の組成物は２つの成分を含んでな
るものであり、その１つは潤滑粘度を有する油性液体で
ある。
このような液体としては天然および合成の油あるいはそ
れらの混合物があり、ことに好ましいものは、自動車お
よびトラック用エンジン、２サイクルエンジン、航空機
ピストンエンジン、舟日用および鉄道用ジーゼルエンジ
ン、さりこはガスェンジン、ジェット機用タービン、定
置エンジンおよびタービン等の火花点火式もしくは圧縮
点火式内然機関用クランクケース潤滑油として有用なタ
イプの油である。自動伝達流体、伝達軸潤滑剤、歯車用
潤滑剤、金属加工用字翼滑剤、圧力流体および他の潤滑
油やグリース組成物用の基液体もまた有用である。天然
油としては動物油や植物油（例えば、ひまし油、豚脂油
）、さらには石油やパラフィン系、ナフテン系もしくは
それらの混合系の溶剤処理もしくは酸処理の鉱物性潤滑
油があり、なかでも鉱物性油が好ましい。
石炭や頁岩から誘導された潤滑粘度を有する油もまた有
用である。合成潤滑油の例を挙げると、オレフィンの重
合体もしくは相互重合体（例えば、ポリブチレン、ポリ
プロピレン、プロピレンーィソブチレン共重合体、塩素
化ポリプチレソ、ポリ（１「ヘキセン）、ポリ（１−オ
クテン）、ポリ（１−デセン）等およびこれらの混合物
）のような炭化水素油およびハロ置換炭化水素油、ァル
キルベンゼン（例えば、ドデシルベンゼン、テトラデシ
ルベンゼン、ジノニルベンゼン、ジー（２ーエチルヘキ
シル）ベンゼン等）、ポリフヱニル類（例えば、ビフェ
ニル類、ターフェニル類、アルキル化ポリフェニル類等
）、アルキル化ジフヱニルェーテルおよびアルキル化ジ
フエニルスルフイド、さらにはこれらの類似体および同
族体等である。
アルキレンオキシドの重合体や相互重合体さらには末端
水酸基がェステル化、エーテル化等によって変性されて
いるようなそれらの誘導体も合成油の一つである。
その例としては、エチレンオキシドまたはプロピレンオ
キシドの重合によって得た油、これらポリオキシアルキ
レンのアルキルもしくはアリールェーテル（例えば平均
分子量１０００のメチルポリイソプロピレングリコール
ヱーナル、分子量５００〜１０００のポリエチレングリ
コールのジフェニルェーテル、分子量１０００〜１５０
０のポリプロピレングリコールのジェチルェーテル等）
、さらにはそれらのモノもしくはポリカルボン酸ェステ
ル（例えば、酢酸ェステル、混合Ｃ３〜Ｃ８脂肪酸ェス
テル）あるいはテトラエチレングリコールＣ，３オキソ
酸ジェステルが挙げられる。他の好適な合成油はジカル
ボン酸（例えば、フタル酸、コハク酸、アルキルコハク
酸、アルケニルコハク酸、マレィン酸、アゼラィン酸、
スベリン酸、セバシン酸、フマル酸、アジピン酸リノレ
ィン酸二量体、マロン酸、アルキルマロン酸、アルケニ
ルマロン酸等）と種々のアルコール（例えば、プチルア
ルコール、ドデシルアルコール、２−エチルヘキシルア
ルコール、エチレングリコール、ジエチレングリコール
モノエーテル、プロピレングリコール等）とのヱステル
類である。このェステル類の具体例を挙げると、アジピ
ン酸ジブチル、セバシン酸ジ（２−エチルヘキシル）、
フマル酸ジノルマルヘキシル、セバシン酸ジオクチル、
アゼラィン酸ジィソオクチル、アゼライン酸ジィソデシ
ル、フタル酸ジオクチル、フタル酸ジデシル、セバシン
酸ジェイコシル、リノレィン酸二量体の２−エチルヘキ
シルジェステル、セバシン酸１モルをテトラエチレング
リコール２モルおよび２ーェチルヘキサン酸２モルと反
応させて得た複合ェステル等である。合成油として有用
なェステルには、さらに、Ｃ５〜Ｃ，２モノカルボソ酸
とポリオールとから得たものやポリオールェーテルがあ
る。
例えば、ネオベンチルグリコール、トリメチロールプロ
パン、ペンタエリスリツト、ジベンタエリスリツト、ト
リベンタェリスリツト等である。ポリアルキルシロキサ
ン油、ポリアルコキシシロキサン油、ポリアリールオキ
シシロキサン油およびシリケート油のようなシリコン系
油も合成油として有用なものである。これらの例として
は、テトラエチルシリケート、テトラインプロピルシリ
ケート、テトラ（２−エチルヘキシル）シリケート、テ
トラ（４−メチル−２−エチルヘキシル）シリケート、
テトラ（パラ第三ブチルフヱニル）シリケート、ヘキシ
ル（４−メチル一２−ペントキシ）ジシロキサン、ポリ
（メチル）シロキサン、ポリ（メチルフェニル）シロキ
サン等がある。さらに他の合成油にはリン含有酸の液状
ェステル（例えば、リン酸トリクレジル、リン酸トリオ
クチル、デシルホスホン酸のジェチルヱステル等）、重
合テトラヒドロフラン等がある。以上述べたタイプの末
精製油、精製油および再精製油のいずれもがこの発明の
組成物に用いられる。未精製油は天然もしくは合成の供
給源から精製処理を加えることなく直接得たものである
。例えば、レトルトによって直接得たシェール油、蒸留
によって直接得た石油あるいはヱステル化によって直接
得たェステル油であってそれ以上の処理を加えずに用い
るものは末精製油である。精製油は１つもしくはそれ以
上の性質を改善するために１回もしくはそれ以上の精製
工程で処理された以外は未精製油と同様のものである。
上記の精製方法は当業者によく知られているところぞあ
る。例えば、溶剤抽出、酸もしくは塩基抽出、ろ過、パ
ーコレーション等である。再精製油は精製油を得るため
に用いられる工程をすでに使用された精製油に適用する
ことによって得られる。このような再精製油はまた再生
油として知られ、そして、し‘よいま、使用済みの添加
剤や油分解生成物を除去するための方法によってさらに
処理される。この発明の組成物中で封止部材膨潤成分と
して作用する物質は既述の式を有する置換スルホレーン
である。その式においてＲＩは少なくとも約４個の炭素
原子を有する炭化水素系基である。この「炭化水素系基
」とは１つの炭素原子が当該分子のその他の部分に直接
結合しており、かっこの発明の有する意味合いにおいて
主として炭化水素特性を有しているような基のことを意
味する。このような基として以下のようなものが挙げら
れる。｛１１ 炭化水素基、すなわち、脂肪族基（例え
ばアルキル基、アルケニル基）、脂環族基（例えばシク
ロアルキル基、シクロアルケニル基）、芳香族基、脂肪
族置換芳香族基、脂環族置換芳香族基、芳香族置換脂肪
族基、芳香族置換脂環族基等。このような基は当業者に
は自明のものであろう。例えば、ブチル、ベンチル、ヘ
キシル、オクチル、デシル、ドデシル、エイコシル、デ
セニル、シクロヘキシル、フエニル、トリル、ヘプチル
フエニル、インプロベニルフエニルおよびナフチルの各
基（異性体の存在するものはその全ても含む）である。
‘２’置換炭化水素基、すなわち、この発明の意味合い
において当該基の主なる炭化水素特性を改変することの
ない非炭化水素置換基を含有する基。
このような置換基は当業者のよく知るところである。一
例を挙げると、ハロゲン基、ニトロ基、シアノ基、ＲＯ
−基、Ｒ２Ｎ−基、 ＲＳ−基、 および （これらの基においてＲは水素また は炭化水素基を表わす）である。
【３｝ へテロ基、すなわち、この発明の意味合いにお
いて主として炭化水素特性を示すが、鎖もしくは環構造
中に炭素以外の原子を含み、この原子がなければ全て炭
素原子で構成されている基。
好適なへテロ原子の例には酸素、窒素およびィオウがあ
る。一般に、上記炭化水素系基中の炭素原子ＩＮ固毎に
存在する置換基もしくはへテロ原子の数はせし、ぜし、
３個、好ましくはせし、ぜい１個である。
「アルキル系基」というような語はアルキル基について
上記と同様な意味合いで用いられている。置換スルホレ
ーンの好ましいものは、ＲＩが炭化水素基であるもの、
通常、アセチレン性不飽和を含まず、約４〜１０の固の
炭素原子を含有する炭化水素基であるものである。
この基の例を挙げると、ブチル、アミル、ヘキシル、オ
クチル、デシル、ドデシルエイコシル、トリアコンタニ
ル、ブデニル、ドデセニル、フエニル、ナフチル、トリ
ル、ドデ十シルフエニル〜 テトラプロベンで・アルキ
ル化したフエニル、フエネチル、シク。へキシルおよび
メチルシクロヘキシルの各基（これらの異性体も含まれ
る）である。ことに好ましいものは、約４〜２３固、通
常約４〜１の固の炭素原子を有するアルキル基である。
Ｒ２およびＲ３のそれぞれは水素または低級アルキル系
基（通常低級アルキル基）である。
ここで「低級」とは炭素原子数が７個までの基のことを
示す。低級アルキル基の例としては、メチル基、エチル
基、プロピル基、ブチル基およびへキシル基（全ての異
性体が含まれるが、直鎖状の基がことに好ましい）があ
り、なかでもメチル基が好ましい。ほとんどはＲ２およ
びＲ３の一方が水素であり、そして他方（通常はＲ３）
が水素またはメチル基である。両方とも水素であるのが
好ましい。この発明の組成物に用いて好ましい置換スル
ホレーンはＲ２およびＲ３のそれぞれが水素であって、
ＲＩがそれぞれィソデシル基およびイソブチル基である
ものの混合物であって約２５〜７５重量％をイソブチル
基が占めているものである。以上述べた置換スルホレー
ン自体は公知の物質である。
これは３ースルホレーンもしくはその置換誘導体を有機
ヒドロキシ化合物、普通はアルコールと反応させて得ら
れる。この方法は、例えば、米国特許第２３９３９２５
号や「３ースルホレーン」と題するシェル・デイベロツ
プメント・カンパニーのデータ・シートＤＳ−５８：３
に記載されている。この３ースルホレーンは二酸化ィオ
ウとブタジェンやイソプレンのような共役ジェンとの反
応で得ることができる。作動流体として有用なこの発明
組成物は封止部材を膨潤させるに効果的な置換スルホレ
ーンを少量含んでいる。
この量は油性液体１０の重量部当り通常約０．０５〜２
０．の重量部、好ましくは約０．１〜５．０重量部であ
る。しかしながら、この発明は希釈剤（典型的には潤滑
粘度を有する油性液体）と置換スルホレーンよりなる濃
縮添加剤をも包含する。この濃縮添加剤中置換スルホレ
ーンはその約９の重量％まで占めている。この濃縮添加
剤を上記油性液体で希釈して作動流体を製造することが
できる。この発明は、また、置換スルホレーンと共に他
の添加剤を含有する作動流体および濃縮体をもその範囲
に含むものである。
そのような添加剤には灰含有型もしくは無灰型の清浄剤
もしくは分散剤、腐食防止剤、酸化防止剤、流動点降下
剤、極圧剤、粘度指数向上剤、色素安定剤および消泡剤
がある。灰含有型清浄剤の例を挙げると、アルカリ金属
もしくはアルカリ士金属とスルホン酸カルボン酸、もし
くはオレフィン重合体（例えば分子量１０００のポリイ
ソブテン）を三塩化リン、七硫化リン、五硫化リン、三
塩化リンとィオゥ、黄リンとハロゲン化ィオウ、あるい
はホスホロチオン酸クロリドのようなリン化剤で処理し
て得たもののように炭素−リン直接結合を少なくとも１
つ有している有機リン含有酸との油溶性の中性もしくは
塩基性塩である。
上記酸の最も一般に用いられる塩は、ナトリウム、カリ
ウム、リチウム、力ルシウム、マグネシウム、ストロン
チウムおよびバリウムのそれである。「塩基性塩Ｊとは
当該金属が有機酸板よりも化学量論的に多量に存在して
いる金属塩のことである。
この塩基性塩の製造に普通用いられている方法は酸の鉱
油溶液を金属の酸化物、水酸化物、炭酸塩、重炭酸塩あ
るいは硫化物のような金属中和剤とともに５０ｑｏ以上
の温度で加熱し、その結果物をろ過することによりなる
のである。その際、大過剰の金属を包含させるのを補助
するために中和工程において「促進剤」を使用すること
も知られている。このような促進剤として有用な化合物
の例としてはフェノール、ナフトール、アルキルフェノ
ール、チオフェノール、硫化アルキルフェ／ール、およ
びホルムアルデヒドとフェノール系物質との縮合生成物
のようなフェノール系化合物、メタノール、２ーブロパ
ノール、オクチルアルコール、セロソルブ、カルビトー
ル、エチレングリコール、ステアリルアルコール、およ
びシクロヘキシルアルコールのようなアルコール類、さ
らには、アニリン、フエニレンジアミン、フエノチアジ
ン、フエニルベータナフチルアミン、およびドデシルア
ミンのようなアミン類がある。塩基性塩を製造するため
のことに効果的な方法は酸を塩基性アルカリ士金属中和
剤およびアルコール系促進剤と混合し、この混合物を比
較的高温例えば６０〜２００℃で炭酸塩化する方法であ
る。無灰清浄剤・分散剤の例を挙げると、メタクリル酸
デシルやビニルデシルェーテルのような油溶解性単量体
もしくは高分子量オレフィンとアルリル酸アミノアルキ
ルやポリ（オキシェチレン）置換ァクリレートのような
極性置換基を有する単量体との相互重合体、さらにはス
テアリン酸、オレィン酸、トール油酸、あるいは高分子
量アルキルもしくはァルゲニル置換コハク酸のような油
溶性モノもしくはジカルボン酸のアミン塩、アミドおよ
びィミドである。
無灰清浄剤としてことに有用なものは米国特許第３２７
２７４６号に記されているような少なくとも約５４個の
炭素原子を含有するアクリル化ポリアミンおよび類似の
窒素化合物、このような化合物と他の反応体例えばホウ
素化合物、リン化合物、ェボキシド、アルデヒド、有機
酸等との反応生成物、さらには米国特許第３斑１０２２
号に記載されているような炭化水素置換コハク酸のエス
テルである。極圧剤、腐食防止剤および酸化防止剤には
、塩素化ワックスのような塩素化脂肪族炭化水素、二硫
化ペンジル、二硫化ビス（クロルベンジル）、四硫化ジ
ブチル、オレィン酸の硫化メチルェステル、硫化アルキ
ルフェ／ール、硫化ジベンテンおよび硫化テルベンのよ
うな有機硫化物および多硫化物、硫化リンとテレビンも
しくはオレィン酸メチルとの反応生成物のようなホスホ
硫化炭化水素、頭リン酸ジブチル、亜リン酸ジヘプチル
、亜リン酸ジシクロヘキシル、亜リン酸ベンチルフェニ
ル、亜リン酸ジベンチルフェニル、亜リン酸トリデシル
、亜リン酸ジステアリル、亜リン酸ジメチルナフチル、
亜リン酸オレイル４−ベンチルフェニル、蛭リン酸ポリ
プロピレン（分子量５００）置換フェニルおよび亜リン
酸ジィソブチル置換フェニルのような主として亜リン酸
二炭化水素もしくは三炭化水素を含むリンェステル、ジ
オクチルジチオカルバミン酸亜鉛やジチオカルバミン酸
バリウムヘプチルフエニルのようなチオカルバミン酸金
属塩、さらにはジシクロヘキシルホスホロジチオ酸亜鉛
、ジオクチルホスホロジチオ酸亜鉛、ジ（ヘプチルフェ
ニル）ホスホロジチオ酸バリウム、ジノニルホスホロジ
チオ酸カドミウムおよび五硫化リンをインプロピルアル
コールとノルマルヘキシルアルコールとの等モル混合物
と反応させて得たホスホロジチオ酸の亜鉛塩のようなホ
スホロジチオ酸の周期律表第ロ族金属塩がある。
この発明による典型的な組成物の例を以下の表に掲げる
。表中の量は鉱油に関するものを除いて全て希釈剤とし
て用いた油を除いてある。用いてある置換スルホレーン
は既述の式においてＲＩは表のとおりであり、Ｒ２およ
びＲ３は、組成物Ｎに用いたものを除き、それぞれ水素
であり、組成物Ｎで用いたものは、Ｒ２およびＲ３はそ
れぞれメチル基である。なお、表において、試験４４１
Ｃとは、伝達流体に浸債後の封止部材の特性変化を調べ
るものをある。すなわち標準の封止材料のスラブを約１
５０午０に維持された伝達流体に約７餌時間浸贋する。
その後、封止部材の体積変化を浸債前のそれと比較する
。この試験による膨潤率（％）を表中に併記する。また
、試験４０７Ａとは、ピストンおよびシャフトの封止部
材に対する影響を調べるものである。
すなわち、ブナＮ封止部村コンパウンドの試料を約１４
９ｑＣ±１℃に維持された油裕中に入れられた試験管中
に入った自動伝達流体に７畑時間浸潰した後、新たな伝
達流体中で室温まで冷却し、伝達流体を拭きとり乾燥し
、体積変化を測定する。結果を表に併記する。隣 樹 船

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １ 潤滑粘度を有する油性液体に、式 ▲数式、化学式、表等があります▼ （ここで、Ｒ＾１は少なくとも約４個の炭素原子を有
    する炭化水素系基、並びにＲ＾２およびＲ＾３の各々は
    、水素または低級アルキル系基）で示される置換スルホ
    レーンを、該油性液体１００重量部当り、０．０５ない
    し２０重量部の割合で配合したことを特徴とする封止部
    材膨潤性潤滑組成物。 ２ Ｒ＾２およびＲ＾３がそれぞれ水素である特許請求
    の範囲第１項記載の組成物。 ３ Ｒ＾１が約４ないし２５個の炭素原子を有するアル
    キル基である特許請求の範囲第２項記載の組成物。 ４ 油性液体が鉱油である特許請求の範囲第３項記載の
    組成物。 ５ Ｒ＾１がイソデシル基である特許請求の範囲第４項
    記載の組成物。 ６ 置換スルホレーンとしてＲ＾１がイソブチル基のも
    のと一級アミル基のものとの混合物を用いる特許請求の
    範囲第４項記載の組成物。 ７ 油性液体が合成油である特許請求の範囲第３項記載
    の組成物。 ８ 置換スルホレーンが３−イソデコキシスルホレーン
    である特許請求の範囲第１項記載の組成物。
