Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、新規な高強度、高硬度かつ高密度の炭窒化チ
タン−ホウ化金属系セラミックス材料に関するものであ
る。
炭窒化チタンは、一般に融点、硬度、じん性が高く、ま
た耐酸化性もよいため、切削工具材料、機械部品材料と
しての用途が期待されているが、炭窒化チタン単味焼結
体の抗折強度は低く、もろいという欠点があり、単味焼
結体は工業的に利用されないでいる。
またサーメツト材の母材として炭窒化チタンは使われて
いるが、結合剤として添加するNiのため、炭窒化チタ
ン系サーメツト材は耐酸化性および耐熱性に難点が生じ
る。
本発明者らは、このような欠点を改良する目的で゛、炭
窒化チタン粉末に対し、種々のセラミックス粉末を添加
し、焼結実験を重ねた結果、炭窒化チタン粉末に対しM
B2型又はM2B2型ホウ化金属粉末の1種以上を添加
し、焼結することにより、高強度、高硬度かつち密な焼
結体を得ることができることを見出し、この知見に基づ
いて本発明をなすに至った。
但し、Mは金属を示す。すなわち、本発明は、炭窒化チ
タン粉末に対し、MB2型およびM2B5型ホウ化金属
粉末の1種以上を全量当り5〜95%添加してなる炭窒
化チタン−ホウ化金属系セラミックス材料を提供するも
のである。
本発明において、炭窒化チタンTi(CαNβ)とは窒
化チタンに炭素が固溶したものであり、炭素と窒素の割
合(α:β)は10:90から90:10までの範囲の
ものである。
炭窒化チタン粉末は平均粒径2μ以下の粉末が好ましい
また本発明に用いるホウ化金属は、平均粒径2μ以下、
できうれば0.5μ以下が好ましい。
炭窒化チタン粉末に対しこのような微粉末のホウ化金属
粉末を、全量に対し5〜95重量%添加すれば、高強度
な焼結体が得られるが、20〜70重量%の範囲で特に
高強度、高硬度かつ高密度な焼結体が得られる。
5重量%未満あるいは95重量%以上のホウ化金属の添
加では、強度の低下が著しい。
またホウ化金属にホウ素粉末を1〜10重量%添加した
混合粉を、炭窒化チタン粉末に対して用いても、同様の
高強度、高硬度かつち密な焼結体が得られる。
本発明のセラミックス材料は、原料混合粉末を例えば黒
鉛型のような型に充てんし、真空中又は窒素、アルゴン
、水素、炭酸ガスのような中性もしくは還元性雰囲気に
おいて、ダイ圧力50〜300′に9肩の圧力下に15
000〜2000℃の温度、とりわけ170d:)〜1
800℃で10分から200分間加熱焼結することによ
り、得ることができる。
また通常知られた普通焼結法、H−1,P。法等を使用
して焼結することもできる。
本発明の材料は、高強度、高硬度、高密度及び良好な組
織を有し、また耐酸化性にも優れているので、切削工具
材、耐摩耗性機械部品材料あるいは耐熱材料として極め
て好適であり、広い分野に利用することができる。
又、この材料中のホウ化金属は、周期率表のIVb族化
合物を含む環境中では潤滑性に富むM−(IVb)2化
合物表面層を形成し、一層すぐれた摺動性能を付与でき
る。
以下、実施例により本発明をさらに詳細に説明する。
実施例 1 炭素と窒素の比率50:50の炭窒化チタン(以下T
i (C50N5o)のように表示する)粉末70重量
%とニホウ化チタン粉末30重量%とを十分に混合し、
この混合粉末を黒鉛型に充てんする。
この黒鉛型をダイ圧力200 kg/cniで加圧しな
がら、真空中で1700℃に30分間加熱焼成した。
このようにして得られた焼結体は抗折力110klil
/一代ビツカース硬度2300 kg/mv?を有して
いた。
この焼結体の組織を走査型電子顕微鏡で観察すると、組
織内には空孔は見られなかった。
またこの焼結体を空気中で加熱したが、1000℃まで
は酸化されず、1200℃で、わずかに酸化膜で表面が
おおわれた。
実施例 2 第1表に示す各種のTi(CN)粉末と1種以上のホウ
化金属粉末とを各種割合で十分に混合し、この混合粉末
を30分間ホットプレスするか、あるいは、この混合粉
末を冷開成形した後、所定条件下で2時間普通焼結する
ことにより、それぞれの焼結体を製造した。
このようにして得た試料の組成、焼結条件及び焼結後の
焼結体の特性を第1表に示す。

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 1 炭窒化チタン粉末に対し、TiB2 、CrB2
    。 TaB22MrIB22MoB2.VB2.NbB2.
    HfB2.AlB2゜ZrB2等ニホウ化金属粉末ある
    いは高温時に六方晶系になるW2B6.Mo2B5等M
    2B5型ホウ化金属粉末の中の1種以上を、全量に対し
    5〜95重量%添加した混合物を焼結してなる炭窒化チ
    タン−ホウ化金属系セラミックス材料。
