Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 架橋ポリオレフィンからなるパイプは、架橋されていな
いポリオレフィンから々るパイプと比較して、酬熱性、
耐項境応力亀裂性などの点において優れていることから
、ガス管、水道管給湯管用として仰望視されている。
ところて、それらの用途に使用するためにはパイプ同士
の接続が実際上必要となるが、架橋ボリゴ〜チレンは熱
溶融しない、又はその程度が小さいので架橋ポリ乞しフ
インパイプH1架h4されていないポリオレフィンパイ
プのように熱融着によっては強固に接続することがてき
ない、。
の低架橋の状態にある間に融着により接続し、次いて水
によりパイプをS成するポリオレフィンをゲル分率にし
て少くとも60%に架橋させることにより、強固に接続
された架橋ポリエチレンパイプが得られる。
本発明において、パイプを構成する水架橋性ポリオレフ
ィンとしては、公知のもの、だとえif (a) ポリ
エチレン、ホリ70ロピレ/、エチレン−酢酸ビニル共
重合体、(1))一般式RR’5IY2(Rは一価のオ
レフィン性不飽η1を含む炭化水素基又ハハイドロカー
ボンオギシ基、Y +d加水分解し得る有機基、R′は
基R又は基Y)で表わされる化合物、(、)バーオキ勺
イI・などの遊離ランカル発生剤、及び((1)ンラノ
ー/l/縮合触媒とからな橋の状態にある間に行われる
が、60%より大であると充分に融着せず、寸だ、融着
後の追架橋によってもパイプの強固な接続が達成されな
い。一方、本発明においては融着時におけるポリオレフ
ィンのゲル分率は可及的低い方が好1しく、而してゲル
分率5%未満のものであっても理論的には良好に本発明
が達成されると予想されるが、現実の問題として工場生
産された水架橋性ポリオレフィンは、水架橋工程に入る
前に、大気中の水分などによってすてに架橋が進んでお
り5%前後のゲル分率に達している。
本発明において接続されるパイプ同士は、融着によって
接続されるが、この場合の1融着」は、加熱による融着
のみならず、適当な有機溶媒、軟化剤、膨潤剤などによ
りパイプ被接続部表面及びその近傍のポリオレフィン分
子のモビリティを高めて接続界面でのポリオレフィン分
子の相互拡散にもとすき接続させ得る全ての接着の態様
を意味するものである。熱融着による場合は架橋されて
いないポリオレフィンパイプ番こつき行われている場合
と同様に加熱により溶融状態にもたらされたパイプ端面
同士を圧接すればよい。才だ、パイプを構成するベーヌ
ボリオレフィンと同種の、但しオリゴヤ−、ワックス状
などの低分子異物を溶媒として用いて必要に応じて加熱
を行い熱溶着させて接続させてもよい。
上記の接続において、接続されるパイプは全層にわたり
ゲル分率が5〜60%である必要は必ずしもなく、接続
されるべきパイプの外側、内側、又はその中間において
全層厚のV2以上の厚み部分において上記ゲル分率であ
ればよい。
上記の接続作業のあと、パイプ本体及び接続る。たとえ
ばパイプに水、好ましくは50〜100℃の温水、熱水
を通すことにより達成させ得る。
なお、本発明において融着により接続された状態で、接
続部はすてに比較的高強度を有しているので、送水、給
湯を高水圧で行う場合は別として、5に9/cm2以下
程度の低水圧で行う場合は、送水、給湯などに実用しつ
つ水架橋を行わせてもよい。
以下、実施例、比較例により本発明を一層詳細に説明す
る。
し実施例1〜3、比較例1〕 密度0.955 V 、’cm3、M 丁0.589 
/ I 0分のポリエチレン100部(重量部、以下同
様)、ビニルトリメトギシシラン20部、ンクミルパー
オギンド02部、ジブチル−錫−シラクレー1−0.0
5部とからなる水架橋し得るポリエチレン組成物を用い
−〔外径91mm、肉厚l(Jimのパイプを製造し、
該パイプから切取った長さ30cmのパイプ片を各種の
水架橋条1’Fにて架橋させてポリエチレンのゲル分率
が5%(架橋処理なし、実施例1)、30%(実施例2
)、55%(実施例3)65%(比較例1)とした。各
実施例、比較例て用いる2本のパイプ片の接続すべき端
面を200°Cに加熱して溶融状態にもたらして充分に
圧接して接続し、このあと90°Cの熱水中に投入して
2時間放置し水架橋させた。この水架橋後のパイプ構成
ポリエチレンのゲル分率、接続部の強度は、それぞれ、
85%、52 K9/ cm2(実施例1)、85%、
50Kg/口2(実施例2)ポリエチレンのゲル分率1
dJrs 03005ノ26項に準する方法で測定し、
接続部の強度は次の方法て測定した。
接続部の強度テスI・・ パイプ内に満した水の圧力を
20に9/cm2/分の速度で漸次上昇させパイプを破
裂させる。上記実施例、比較例ではいずれも接続部て破
裂したのでその破裂時における水圧をもって接続部の強
度とした。
〔実施例4〜6〕及びし比較例2〕 密度0.9197cm3、M I O,5j7 、/ 
10分のポリプロピレンに3−トリメトキシンリルプロ
ピルアゾl−ホルメート3.0 部、  ノキュミルパ
ーオヤザイ102部、ノーブチル−鍋−ジラウレ−1−
0,05部とからなる水架橋し得るポリプロピレン組成
物を用いて、ポリプロピレンのケ11/分率が5頭(実
施例4)、30%(実施例5)55%(実施例6)、6
5%(比較例2)とした点のみ、実施例1〜6及び比較
例1と異なる実施例4〜6及び比較例2を行なった。
この水架橋後のパイプ構成ポリプロピレンのゲル分率、
接続部の強度はそれぞれ、81%、57Kg/cm2(
実施例4)、82%、55−/G (実施例5)、81
係、5+Kp/cm2(実施例6)、84%、4 Ky
 / cm 2(比較例2)であった。
〔実施例7〜9〕及び〔比較例6〕 にビニルトリメ1−キノンラフ23部、シギュミルパー
オキザイド02部、シープチル−賜−ジラウレ−1・0
07部とからなる水架橋し得るエチレン−酢ビ共重合ポ
リマー組成物を用いて、エチレン−酢ビ共重合ポリマー
のゲル分率が5%(実施例7)、30%(実施例8)、
55%(実施例9)、65%(比較例3)としだ点のみ
、実施例1〜3及び比較例1と異なる、実施例7〜9及
び比較例5を行なった。
この水架橋後のパイプ構成エチレン−酢ビ共重合ポリマ
ーのゲル分率、接続部の強度はそれぞれ79%、53に
9/C+++(実施例7)、79%51に9/cm(実
施例8)、81%、49に9/cm(実施例9)、80
%、5Kp/cm(比較例3)てあった。
