Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明はスイッチングトランジスタアレイを有する液晶
表示パネルの構造に関する。
スイッチングトランジスタアレイを有する液晶表示パネ
ルはグラフィック表示が可能である車力)ら小型携帯用
機器の表示装置として注目されているが、発光表示であ
るCR7表示と比較するとその表示性症は劣っている。
受光表示である液晶表示パネルの表示性症を向上はせる
にはパネル裏面からの照明が必要であるが、従来の液晶
表示パネルでは、スイッチングトランジスタのリーク電
流が照明に依って増加し、キャパシタに蓄積された電荷
が失なわれる為に表示が不可能となる。本発明はトt’
ii:lの欠点を除去して、スイッチングトランジスタ
を有する液晶表示パネルの照明を可能にし表示性症を向
上ζせる事を目的とする。
以下実施例に依っ丁詳しく説明する。
本発明は液晶表示パネルの照明を回部とする為にスイッ
チングトランジスタとパネル基板との間に遮光膜を形成
する。第1図に本発明の実施例の断面図を示す。パネル
基板1上に光を遮断する為の遮光膜2を形成する。遮光
膜2け金属もしくは金属群什物、特に高融漬金属もしく
けその硅化物によって形成謬れる。しかる後に絶縁膜3
を介してシリコン膜を形成し、トランジスタ4を構成す
る。トランジスタ4の上KFip縁膜5を介してパネル
表面からの外光を遮断する遮光膜6を金属もしくは金属
硅化物で形成し、照明光及び外光からトランジスタを保
護する。本発明の液晶表示パネルは上t’の様に遮光膜
によって光によるトランジスタのリークを防止するもの
であるので、パネルの裏面から照明を施す事が可能であ
り、従来の液晶表示パネルと比較して表示性能が飛躍的
に向上する。
本発明の液晶表示パネルは携帯用機器の表示装置として
広範な用途の使用が期待きれる。
