Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable always adequate cooling action, by providing a single cooling water circulation pump for supplying cooling water to a cylinder head and a cylinder block and by providing a single thermosensitive valve for modifying the circulation passage of the cooling water depending on its temperature. CONSTITUTION:An engine 1 is provided with a cylinder head cooling water passage 4, a cylinder block cooling water passage 5, a cooling water heat radiator 10, a cooling water circulation pump 13 and a thermosensitive valve 16. When the temperature of the engine 1 is low, ports 27, 28 are disconnected from each other by the thermosensitive valve 16 so that cooling water flows through passages 51, 4, 46, 44 and ports 26, 25 and returns to the pump 13. When the engine is being warmed up, the ports 24, 25 are connected to those 27, 28 by the thermosensitive valve 16 so that the cooling water flows through the radiator 10 and the cylinder block cooling water passage 5. According to this constitution, adequate cooling action is enabled to avoid knocking.
