Abstract

The engine has a cylinder block (3) and cylinder head (2) cast in one piece. The head part contains passages (8) for inlet and exhaust gas flow and openings (14) for fuel injectors. Both sections contain cooling water space (4, 19). The wall (17) of the cylinder is extended beyond the top (15) of the cylinder and linked to the block outer wall (9) by a partition (18) which separates the block cooling water space (4) from the head cooling water space (19). This results in a temp. distribution which reduces thermal deformation of the composite casting under operating conditions.
