Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the output performance and fuel efficiency of an engine, by providing a passage to by-pass a radiator and by controlling the flow rate of cooling water flowing through the passage, depending on the load. CONSTITUTION:Water pumps 10, 11 are connected to the inlet ports 6, 7 of water jackets 4, 5. Cooling water is supplied into the water jackets 4, 5 by the water pumps 10, 11. Control valves 14, 15 are opened or closed depending on the temperature of the cooling water detected by a water temperature sensor 32, to maintain the water at a prescribed temperature. A control valve 30 is opened or closed depending on the engine load detected by a load sensor 49, to control the temperature of the cooling water.
