Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a thermal shock by a method wherein, a cooling water that flows into the water jacket of an engine is made to pass through a thermal buffer tank which accumulates the heat of the cooling water to be produced at the time of bypass recirculation, thereby heating the low temperature cooling water of a radiator. CONSTITUTION:Water jackets 4, 5 of a cylinder head and a cylinder block have intake ports 6, 7 and pumps 10, 11, and each connects with an outlet port 20 via a pipe 22, a thermal buffer tank 29 and a pipe 23. Outlet ports 8, 9 of the both jackets 4, 5 connect with an intake port 19 of the radiator via pipes 12, 13 having control valves 14, 15 controlled by a computer 30. A pipe 13 connects with a pipe 23 at the upper stream of the control valve 15 via a bypass pipe 24. The control valve 14 closes and the control valve 15 opens when the cooling water temperature is low, and the heat of the cooling water collected when it recirculates in the bypass, is accumulated in the tank 29.
