Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve a supercharging efficiency and prevent a delayed response to an acceleration at low speed run by dividing cylinders of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine into two groups and driving two blowers which are connected to those grouped cylinders according to an operation condition of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: If this invention is applied to a series six-cylinder internal combustion engine, scavenging manifolds 3a, 3b are respectively connected to the first group A of the first to third cylinders 2aW2c and the second group B of the fourth to sixth cylinders 2dW2f. A supercharger 4 is composed of a turbine 6 for which an exhaust gas is supplied through exhaust manifolds 5a, 5b and two blowers 7a, 7b which are connected to a turbine output shaft 6a by the medium of a gear inter-locking device 6b. The outlets of the blowers 7a, 7b are respectively connected to the scavenging manifolds 3a, 3b and the lower pathes of the blowers 7a, 7b are communicated by a communication passage 8 in which a constantly closed switch valve 9 is provided. The valve 9 is controlled according to an output of a revolution speed sensor 12.
