Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the rate of methane gas generation and the dehydration property of sludge with high energy efficiency, in treatment of organic sludge, by treating the sludge while omitting coarsening of digested sludge particles and heat-treatment of crude sludge from a sedimention pool.
CONSTITUTION: Filthy water 1 is treated in a primary sedimentation pool 2 to precipitate crude sludge. The supernatant is converted into active sludge by an aeration vessel 3, let flow into a final sedimentation pool 4 and precipitated. The resultant purified water is drained. Excess sludge in the pool 4 is converted into concentrated sludge by a vessel 7 or the like, let flow into a vessel 11, mixed with digested sludge fed back from digestion vessels 39, 37, and then heat-treated in a reaction vessel 15 by steam from the boiler of a sludge incinerator 16. Thus, the sludge is separated into coarse particles which can be easily dewatered and a solution which can be easily decomposed anaerobically. The treated water is subjected to evaporation under a reduced pressure in an evaporator 18, and the sludge is precipitated in a vessel 21 and filtered by a filter press 23. On the other hand, the supernatant is mixed with the crude sludge 5 or concentrated sludge and filtrate 24, conditioned at a proper temperature by a means 34, mixed with seed sludge at the bottom of the vessel 37, and then decomposed by anaerobic bacteria in the vessel 37 to generate methane gas and to precipitate digested sludge.
