Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten days of CH4 gas digestion and raise the yield of CH4 gas by subjecting org. waste to two-phase anaerobic treatment to recover CH4 gas; concentrating the resulting digested slurry in a baisc atmosphere; and returning the conc. slurry to the anaerobic treatment process.
CONSTITUTION: An org. waste slurry such as sewage sludge is introduced into acid formation vessel 1 and fermented with facultative anaerobic bacteria to convert the org. waste into low molecular cpds., forming org. acid and alcohol. The treated slurry is fed to gasification vessel 2 and fermented with absolute anaerobic bacteria to decompose the org. substances mainly into CH4 gas, which is stored in gas holder 4 through gas meter 3. On the other hand, the slurry alone is fed to vacuum distiller 6, where alkali 8 is added to adjust the slurry to pH about 10W11, and the adjusted slurry is destilled while reducing the internal press. of distiller 6 with vacuum pump 10. Thus, org. matter in the slurry is concentrated by about 6W8 times, and cellulose, sludge cells, etc. are decomposed and solubilized. This solubilized slurry is returned to vessel 1 and converted into CH4 gas through vessel 2.
