Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the sludge treating efficiency and to reduce the amt. of sludge to be discharged and digested by treating a part of the digested sludge discharged from an anaerobic digestion tank with an alkali, returning the treated sludge to the anaerobic digestion tank, and digesting the sludge. CONSTITUTION:A part of the digested sludge discharged from the anaerobic digestion tank is treated with an alkali, and the treated sludge is returned to the digestion tank. In this case, an alkali such as sodium hydroxide or its aq. soln. is added to the discharged sludge and mixed, and the alkali is appropriately added until the pH of the discharged sludge is controlled to about 11-13. The alkali-treated digested sludge as such or the sludge appropriately neutralized is returned to the digestion tank. The ratio of the sludge to be treated with an alkali and returned to the digestion tank to the total digested sludge is appropriately controlled to about 30-50%.
