Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve dewatering efficiency without addition of a flocculant, by washing sludge, generated during anaerobically digesting treatment, with water, reforming the sludge by addition of mineral acid, and then dewatering the reformed sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Anaerobic sludge is fed into a water-washing vessel 1, where the anaerobically-digested sludge is washed with clarified water or discharged water from a sewage-purifying plant by adding 2W5pts.vol. of the washing water to 1pt.vol. of the sludge. By letting the sludge flow through the vessel 1, coagulation-inhibiting substance contained in the sludge is washed away. The sludge washed and precipitated in the water-washing vessel 1 is fed into an acidifying vessel 3 by a sludge pump 2. In the acidifying vessel 3, the sludge fed from the water-washing vessel 1 is adjusted at pH 1W4 by addition of mineral acid. Under said pH condition, the sludge turns into dense particles. The treated sludge is then fed to a dewatering step.
