Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the out-flow of phosphorus from excess sludge, by subjecting the excess sludge to anaerobic and aerobic treatments, and then aerating and dehydrating the excess sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Stock water 7 and return sludge 8 are introduced into an anaerobic vessel 1, and anaerobically treated there. The water and the sludge are then introduced into an aerobic vessel 2, and aerated there. Thereafter, the water and the sludge are separated into a solid part and a liquid part in a sedimentation vessel 3. The supernatant liquid is drained as a purified water 9. A part of the separated active sludge 10 is returned as return sludge 8 to the anaerobic vessel 1. The remaining excess sludge 11 is reserved in a reservoir 4 in an anaerobic atmosphere, aerated in a sludge-aerating vessel 5, and dehydrated by a dehydrator 6. In this case, the phosphorus discharged in the reservoir 4 is taken up again in the sludge by the aeration in the sludge-aerating vessel 5. Consequently, the phosphorus is not transferred into a filtrate formed in the dehydrating step.
