Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a high tensile wire rod of high grade efficiently at a low cost by precooling a material to be rolled to specific temps. then finish rolling the same thence turning the same to supercooled austenite followed by controlled cooling to turn to martensite and drawing. CONSTITUTION:In hot rolling of a wire rod, a material to be rolled is precooled to 750-900 deg.C by a cooler provided between an intermediate rolling mill group and a finish rolling mill, after which it is subjected to finish rolling. Thence, it is quickly cooled to temps. below 700 deg.C with a water cooling installation after the finish rolling to the state of supercooled austenite, whereby austenite grains are fined. Next, the state of supercooled austenite is turned to martensite, by controlled cooling. The wire rod turned to martensite is drawn with roller dies without descaling. After the drawing, it is subjected to tempering and warm straightening according to need.
