Abstract

PURPOSE:To descale the surfaces of a steel strip without using any acid soln. by treating the scale on said surfaces with a device for wustite scale treatment of good descaling property and a mechanical descaling device. CONSTITUTION:A steel strip coil which is held at about 750-680 deg.C in a nonoxidative atmosphere furnace 1 is fed from a coiler 2 to a quick cooling device 5. In the device 5, the steel strip is quickly cooled so as to prevent the transformatio of the wustite scale on its surface to magnetite scale. The preceding steel strip and the succeeding steel strip are connected by a shearing device 6 and a welding device 7, and the connected steel strip is fed to a mechanical descaling device 10 through an accumulator 9. Scale is removed by the brush rolls (c) of the device 10, and the strip is washed with linger rolls (e), after which it is fed to a cold rolling device 11, where it is cold rolled. The scale on the surfaces of the steel srip is removed by this without using any acid soln.
