Abstract

PURPOSE: To save pickling and lubricating and to produce a steel wire rod or steel bar for cold forging by giving elongation higher than a specific elongation rate to a hot rolled steel wire or steel bar with a roll bender, subjecting the same to spheroidizing annealing then to skin-pass drawing in accordance with need.
CONSTITUTION: A hot rolled steel wire or bar is given elongation higher than 10% elongation rate by using a roll bender device, and is thence subjected to spheroidizing annealing. However, the steel wire or bar which is only given the elongation with the roll bender is inferior in the sectional roundness and in some cases it does not lend itself to cold forging as it is. In such a case, it is further subjected to descaling and lubricating after the spheroidizing annealing, thence it undergoes skin-pass drawing with dies of low reduction of area.
