Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a low strength steel wire rod with superior uniformity over the whole length by preliminarily cooling a steel wire rod before a finish rolling mill, followed by finish rolling, forced cooling, coiling and cooling at a cooling rate below 1 deg.C/sec for transformation. CONSTITUTION:When steel is hot rolled into a steel wire rod, one or more preliminary coolers 2 are set between intermediate rolling mill 1 and finish rolling mill 3. A wire rod is cooled with coolers 2 to 600-900 deg.C before mill 3. The rod is rolled to the final diameter with mill 3, cooled with forced cooler 4, coiled with laying cone 5, and further cooled with forced air cooler 6' at a cooling rate below 1 deg.C/sec to make recrystallized austenite grains fine, lowering hardening sensibility. Thus, a low strength steel wire rod is manufactured having low uniform tensile strength and no bending breakage over the whole length.
