Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure an automatic decision for the lifetime of a cutting tool, by providing a long groove to the holder of the cutting tool and then storing a detecting element in the long groove. CONSTITUTION:A long groove 3 is pierced in a holder 1 of a cutting tool, and an electronic device containing a detecting element 9, a lead wire 15, etc. is wholly stored in the groove 3. Then the holder 1 is fixed to an edge tool stand of a machine, and the cutting is performed by a ceramic cutting tool. The cutting power detect the vibration of a nose 2 in the form of a change of voltage by the element 9, and this change of voltage is sent to an external amplifier via the wire 15. The output waveform of this amplification is compared with a reference value set previously to detect an fault and then to give an alarm. In such way, the deterioration of quality is automatically detected for a cutting tool.
