Abstract

PURPOSE:To accelerate the growth of isometric crystal grains in molten steel and produce an ingot of superior quality by stirring the molten steel in a mold electromagnetically while adding a coolant thereto. CONSTITUTION:While a coolant is added to the molten steel in a mold, the molten steel in the mold is stirred electromagnetically. If the coolant is added to the molten steel, the temp. of the molten steel in the mold lowers and the growth of isometric crystal grains in the molten steel is much more accelerated as compared to the case of the electromagnetic stirring alone. Since the molten steel is kept stirred at all times by means of the electromagnetic stirrer, the non- melting of the coolant does not occur. Thereby, the growth of the isometric crystal grains in the molten steel is more accelerated and the ingot of superior quality is obtained.
